GREEN POLICY
Diamond carries on the proud MasterBrand® Cabinetry legacy of doing right by our
industry, our customers, our neighbors and our environment. We are certified by
the KCMA Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) for our sound environmental
management and sustainable manufacturing practices. Launched in 2006, this
groundbreaking voluntary certification program provides a tangible way for
cabinet manufacturers to show their commitment to sustainability. The ESP seal
reflects Diamond’s continued commitment to achieving and maintaining
sustainability in areas such as air quality (low-formaldehyde-emitting composite
wood), resource management and environmental stewardship. After all, when it
comes to ensuring the health and prosperity of future generations, there’s
always room for improvement.
December 2010
MasterBrand Cabinets is pleased to announce as of January 2011, all MBCI cabinet brands will be utilizing composite board (particleboard, plywood and MDF) that is manufactured and certified to meet the applicable California regulations on formaldehyde emissions from composite wood panels for all its product lines.
Full compliance of Phase 1, for fabricators of CWP products, isn’t required until 2012. MBCI has elected to move forward a full year early with Phase 1, in response to customer demand. This beneficial alteration will insure material changes are completed efficiently over the next 3 years, when the final reduction in emissions is implemented in Phase 2.
Once this change is made, you will see certification language on our product shipping labels and invoices (COMPLIES WITH CARB PHASE 1 OF 17 CCR SEC. 93120). Under regulation, all wood product manufacturers must provide this information.
Retailers of CWP products in California have only a few requirements under this regulation. Generally, retailers have to prove the products they offer consumers meet the CARB emissions levels. This means invoices for our products must be retained by customers for at least 2 years, showing proof that purchased goods are compliant.
Protection of the environment is a priority for MBCI. We will maintain work in order to meet requirements for our continued participation in the KCMA Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP). The use of our ESP certified cabinets in homes applying for the NAHB Green Home Standard program will qualify for 2 points. These points increase to 3 when cabinets meet the CARB requirements, as MBCI’s products do.
Our goal is to be a good neighbour in our communities and help preserve the environment for the benefit of future generations. We will aggressively seek out and employ processes that are technically sound and economically feasible to reduce our environmental impacts while providing homeowners, builders and architects with quality products and services.
